Turkey
Digiturk celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2019, having launched as a satellite television provider on January 1, 1999, with services beginning a few years later.

Now owned by a group in Qatar, it provides Turkish customers with national television channels, national radio, and streaming music. It is also the home of the very popular Turkish Super League – the Turkish Football Federation’s home.

As a gateway between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, it’s not surprising that many Turkish residents wind up traveling for work or simply to experience life in another country. At last count there are a whopping 6 million Turks living in other countries, including 5.5 million in Western Europe.

While home is never more than a phone call or a relatively short plane ride away, the same cannot be said for enjoying DigiTurk when away from home. Like most media companies, DigiTurk does not let people outside its viewing region have access to its streaming capabilities for copyright and other legal reasons.

Additionally, Turkey is one of the foremost countries in the world when it comes to Internet censorship. For this particular issue, it’s not about letting Turkish citizens view banned websites, but rather letting outside parties view Turkish domain programming.

Of course the average Turk working abroad has no such insidious ideas in mind, he or she mostly just wants to watch their favorite programs or sports action from their new home country.

How to Watch DigiTurk From Outside Turkey

Virtual Private Network (VPN)
While there are some websites in existence that charge subscriptions to let you watch DigiTurk programming, they are largely inconsistent in that you cannot do anything but watch the programming live.

Therefore if you are in the US and your favorite show is on at 12 p.m. on a Saturday, you’ll be up in the middle of the night to try and catch it, without the ability to record, rewind, or replay it.

Those sites also cost a healthy fee but make no guarantees that every channel will be up at any given time, making it hard to rely on them.

Fortunately, virtual private network (VPN) technology exists to make the choice much easier and satisfactory. VPNs allow you to connect to a remote server inside of Turkey and acquire a Turkish IP address that can be used to log on to DigiTurk’s website and stream its live programming or previously aired shows.

The security technology at DigiTurk’s website expects to see Turkish IP addresses when users log on to request live streams, and the remote server provides that. The VPN itself encrypts and decrypts your data so the Turkish censors are not aware that you are accessing the server from outside Turkey.
