Character.AI Announces New Multimedia Features And Social Feed
The tech company Character.AI announced on Monday a series of new features, including an interactive storytelling experience called Scenes, a photo animation tool called AvatarFX, a portfolio feature for creators, and a community feed.
In a rush? Here are the quick facts:
- Character.AI introduced several multimedia features for users.
- Scenes will allow users to make their favorite avatars participate in interactive storylines.
- AvatarFX will offer an image-to-video experience, allowing avatars to perform multiple actions.
According to the announcement, these new multimedia features are partly a response to user requests and evolving needs. Character.AI is expanding beyond text, moving into video and social experiences.
“Our community has been asking for more ways to build and explore new worlds, and these features make it easier than ever to bring depth and emotion to every story,” states the document. “The new features are designed to help you amplify your presence, connect more meaningfully with your audience, and new ways to express your creativity.”
With Scenes, users can place their favorite characters into ready-made interactive storylines, and soon they will be able to create their own. This feature is currently available on the mobile app. Streams—coming soon—will allow users to take on a director role, by choosing topics and actions to create their own scripted takes.
AvatarFX, currently available on the web only, offers an image-to-video experience, enabling avatars to perform actions such as singing, engaging with others, or speaking.
Users will also be able to showcase their AI avatars and video creations to others through the Profile Redesign feature, only on mobile at the moment.
Character.AI also introduced a Community Feed, encouraging interactions between users and avatars, allowing them to share their content creations.
The company emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe environment and encouraged users to visit its Safety Center and review its Terms of Service.
Character.AI has been involved in multiple lawsuits, including a case related to the suicide of a 14-year-old boy. Experts have raised concerns over the impact that platforms and products like the ones offered by Character.AI have on vulnerable people.
